This was a commission piece that I worked on with a wonderful man by the name of David Cutler. David found my work on the internet and knew it would be perfect for the cover of his book, which is titled "The Savvy Musician". I didn't hesitate when David contacted me about the project. I knew it was going to be a great one to dive into. After a long conversation about how to best represent the Savvy Musician, I began to put all the pieces together. David wanted to use one of my original sculptures, but asked if we could modify it for the cover. He wanted it to be a little more modern and lend itself to Classical music as well as Jazz. I made the changes and began photographing a variety of poses. David chose the one that best fit his project. Once we had the basic idea, we then started to focus on all the details that represented the book. David and I worked together until the project was finalized. He decided to add 14 black and white photos for each chapter opening of the book. Each photo used is a close up of the original sculpture. |
